My storyI am 13 years old and my generation is the first where we are forced to take a keen interest in international issues, across the globe. Through my exploration for solutions, over the past year, I have created a channel to better our understanding of concepts such as the United Nation's 17 Sustainable Development Goals. My YouTube Channel is called SaveOurWorld.
Developments in technology make our world seem smaller and more connected. Third world issues, in developing countries, seem closer to home. Global trade and international alliances mean events occurring on other continents, or across oceans, will still affect us.
So, why is there no urgency in the single-most significant matter to affect us all! |
STATE NOWEffects climate scientists predicted, are now occurring: accelerated rise in sea levels & natural disaster.
In 23 years (1993 to 2016), Antarctica lost almost 3 trillion tons of ice. Melting glaciers impact freshwater ecosystems and over a billion people, who rely on these glaciers for drinking water, sanitation & agriculture. |
FUTURE THREATSThis crisis is projected to worsen; hundreds of millions may be forced to migrate from their homes by 2050.
In many of the warmer climates, regular temperatures of 46°C to 51°C will become common. For every degree of Celsius temperature increase, global food production will drop 10% in many southern areas. 1.75 billion people will be exposed to increased water stress, and there will be 5.7 million square kilometers of cropland decline. |
CURRENT GOALS2016 was an incredible year for global climate action, with the Paris Agreement entering into full legal force.
The Paris Agreement is a positive global climate agreement signed by 195 countries, including some of the world’s largest emitters such as China and the USA. Governments are now committed to limiting their emissions, to keep global temperature increase below 2°C. |
